Custom edible images are a great way to personalise cakes and cupcakes, and the images can be made as large as an A4 sheet. When placing your order, you send us a digital image which will be turned into your custom edible image. You can then use it to put on top of a cake (iced with fondant or buttercream) or cupcakes. Then just watch your guests' jaws drop when they see your amazing homemade creation.

You can choose to print your image onto a number of sizes:
19-cm diameter circle (for a cake)
2-inch (approximately 5-cm) diameter cupcake circles, in batches of 12
Any size or shape which can fit onto an A4 sheet (maximum printable area is 19cm x 25cm)
We can also add text to your image for you on request.

Ingredients

Water, glucose syrup, corn starch, microcrystal cellulose, glucose syrup powder solid, sorbit, glycerin, titanium dioxide powder, microcrystal cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), starch syrup, locust bean gum, methyl cellulose, potassium sorbate (preservative).
The inks used are edible food-dye inks. The sheets are certified kosher by their manufacturer.
The images should be kept in a cool, dry place. They can be kept for several months, but may fade if left in bright light.

Please note: Edible images can occasionally be tricky to work with, especially in humid or wet weather. The instructions here are meant only as a guide to provide some assistance if you are having difficulty. If the image is ruined, torn, or otherwise made unusable by your efforts at removing it, we do not issue refunds.

Cake

Any type of cake can be used with an edible icing image. Bake and decorate your cake with the covering of your choice (buttercream, fondant, royal icing, ganache). The icing should be fairly wet and not crusted over: if it has crusted, spray it with a fine mist of water before attempting to apply the image. If you are placing your image over a bright colour, the icing colour may bleed through the image. We highly recommend either placing the image over the white-iced areas of your cake, or placing the image on a fondant or sugar paste sheet and then placing it on top of the cake.

To apply on fondant

A fine water mist or a barely damp pastry brush can be used to dampen the fondant before applying the image. The images will not stick to dry fondant.

Storage

Keep your edible image in its plastic bag until you are ready to use it.

Removal from the backing sheet

We have found that the easiest way to remove the images is to run the sheet along the edge of a table or benchtop: curve it around the edge of the table and the edges of the image should just lift off so you can then peel it away from the backing. Your edible image should peel off the sheet fairly easily, but do not pull hard or force it as it will stretch and possibly rip. If it is sticking to the sheet, it may be the humidity or temperature of the room you are in. You can speed this process up by slightly warming the sheet. This should dry the edges of the sheet sufficiently so you can remove it from the backing sheet. You can also try using the blade of a knife to lift one edge and then peel away the rest of the image, but use caution as this is a risky way to do it! It is best to peel the backing away from the icing sheet rather than the icing sheet away from the backing.

Hold the image gently in your dry hands and place the middle of the image onto the cake first. Then smooth out the rest of the icing sheet onto the cake. Use your hands to smooth out any wrinkles or imperfections. Once the image has been smoothed onto the cake it is impossible to move it, so it's best to visualise your placement before removing the backing paper.

Do not let any water drip onto the image as it will bleed and ruin the image - always use dry hands.

The icing picture will meld with the icing underneath and should not peel off once it is placed. If this happens, the icing was too dry to begin with. You can gently add some moisture to the back and re-smooth it into place.

Good luck!
